The Burlington "Skyway" is pictured here in the final stages of its construction in May 1958. After it opened in October of that year, the Skyway became part of the Queen Elizabeth Way.

During the post-war era, the Toronto-Barrie Highway (later Highway 400) was built to accommodate traffic that was clogging Highways 11 and 27 north of Toronto.
