If you require accomodation for this course, please click here. | | Content | Risk Management and Conflict Resolution This module will provide participants with a general knowledge of the causes of conflict on the project site, how to prevent it, and how to resolve it. Court case examples will be used.
Pumping and Forcemains Participants will learn about general construction, pumps & valves, electrical, mechanical & controls, and architectural treatments for pumping stations. Participants will also learn design considerations, material selections, installation, crossings, chambers and odour control for forcemains.
Construction Contracts and Development Agreements This unit will cover construction contracts, construction contract approach, construction management, design build contracts, Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) guidelines, engineering agreements, draft plan approvals, subdivision agreements, cost sharing agreements, development agreements, site plan agreements, and builder purchase and sales agreements.
Trenchless Technology This unit provides a review of current methods and applications for trenchless technology as it is used for new infrastructure installation and rehabilitation. Several options for lining existing pipe materials will also be reviewed.
Natural Channel Construction This unit will provide an overview of design basics and terminologies, permits and construction windows, layout of stream alignments, fish-out of working reaches of streams, working in dry conditions, typical bio-engineering techniques for stream stabilization, rock weirs and rock ramps, and monitoring. Examples and case studies will provide pointers on what to watch for during construction. | | Stormwater Management This unit will discuss stormwater management practices, lot level and conveyance control, infiltration base controls, end of pipe controls and siting of stormwater management facilities, all in reference to the Stormwater Management Planning and Design Manual (2003) by the Ministry of Environment.
Ethics for the Inspector Municipal inspectors must be above reproach at all times, yet normal business practices can easily run afoul of local conflict of interest guidelines. This unit will explore the topic of ethics surrounding inspectors within the context of their daily inspection roles.
Legislation Governing Work Around Water Courses, Watersheds and Streams Participants will gain an overview of the Acts and Regulations governing work conducted around watercourses, watersheds and streams will be overviewed. Participants will also learn how the three levels of governments: Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Ministry of Natural Resources and local Conservation Authorities, are working together to apply and enforce these Regulations.
Water Quality Issues, Disinfection and Applications This module will introduce participants to recent MOE regulations and guidelines, as well as their application and enforcement by the ministry. Discussions focus on how these new regulations and guidelines will apply to municipalities and how they will be reinforced. | | Who Should Attend | Sewer and watermain construction inspectors with at least 5 to 7 years experience. | | Prerequisites | The Sewer and Watermain Construction Inspection Inspection course is recommended. | | Materials Required | None. | | Format | Presentations; group discussions | | Accreditation Process | The Engineering Institute of Canada awards 3.5 Continuing Education Units to this course.
