Awards

The OGRA Awards luncheon is held during the Annual Combined Conference. The following is a list of available awards, the criteria for each and the method by which nominations are submitted:

Long Service Awards

Every year OGRA recognizes those employees who have given long years of service in the cause of good roads.

Eligibility requirements:

• Minimum of 30 years in the road industry employed in the municipal, provincial and/or private sectors.
• Retired from their employment or will be retiring within one year of the Annual Conference at which the award will be given.
• Immediately previous or current employer is a member in good standing of Ontario Good Roads Association.

Elaine Robinson Volunteer of the Year Award

This award recognizes one special individual who has made an invaluable and outstanding contribution to the municipal sector and to OGRA.
The award is named for the late Elaine Robinson a long time OGRA staff member who worked closely with many of our volunteers throughout her career with the association.

Selection of the award recipient is made by the OGRA’s Nominating Committee based on the following criteria.

The nominee must:
1. Be a current and active volunteer

2. Have served a minimum of 5 years as an active volunteer

3. Be an active and dedicated supporter of OGRA and its mandate to represent the infrastructure interests of municipalities through advocacy, consultation, training, and the delivery of identified services.

Current officers of the OGRA Board of Directors and paid instructors are ineligible.

Michael Woodcroft Award

The annual Michael Woodcroft Award is presented to the student who achieves the highest average mark based on the results of both the Maintenance and Construction examinations of the T.J. Mahony Road School.

Scott McKay Award

The annual Scott McKay Award is presented to the student who achieves the highest average on any two of the three Scott McKay Municipal courses in concrete, bituminous, and soils technology.

College Proficiency Awards

More than forty years ago, the Ontario Good Roads Association established the College Proficiency Awards to recognize the achievements of students registered in college level civil engineering technology programs. The award winners are recommended by their college deans for demonstrating both a high scholastic average and overall proficiency in civil engineering.

John Niedra Better Practices Competition

Named in memory of former OGRA Board member and City of Toronto Director of Transportation Services,John Niedra, OGRA holds a competition each year to recognize outstanding municipal innovations and achievements that improve the efficiency of transportation and public works services and operations. Categories include Innovative Equipment, Innovative Service Delivery, and Innovative Management.
