  Content
Design Rationale Criteria
Participants will discover the numerous issues to consider when planning sewer installation at a given site. Participants will be able to design a sanitary sewer system to meet given planning objectives. The Class Environmental Assessment process will be briefly discussed.
Hydraulics
This unit will introduce Manning's equation and hydraulic grade lines. Participants will learn to use the formulas to complete sanitary sewer design charts.
Preliminary and Detail Design Parameters
This unit covers peaking factors, minimum and maximum velocities, self-cleansing velocities, inflow infiltration, and how to generate the flows. Participants will also learn to do the calculations to complete a sanitary sewer design sheet.
Structural Design of Flexible and Rigid Pipes
In this unit participants will learn about the optimum bedding conditions for flexible and rigid pipes as well as the differences between the two pipe materials. Emphasis will be placed on flexible conduits.
Design Case Studies and Workshop
Working individually and in teams, participants will be asked to design a sanitary sewer system for a small new residential subdivision development.
  Objectives
This course will prepare participants to review a proposed or existing sanitary system to design new sewer systems, and to design additions or replacements for existing systems.
  Who Should Attend
This course is recommended for engineers in training, designers, technicians and technologists who have a basic understanding of sewer design. Participants should be employed in the sewer design field. This course is intended for those who require an overall understanding of sanitary sewer design. You will be expected to complete a sanitary sewer design by using first principle methods and/or design aids (nomographs, tables, etc.)
  Prerequisites
Storm Sewer Design course
Participants who have attended Watermain Design or who have closely related experience will also be considered.
  Accreditation Process
This course is recognized by:

Association of Ontario Road Supervisors

OACETT: This course may be used as credit in all exam programs including technical specialist, technician and technologist programs. Please contact OACETT to ensure that this course satisfies your particular examination program for certification. Point Value=7
