Municipal DataWorks is a web-based data storage repository in which
municipalities will be able to enter data on the extent and condition of their
roads and bridges.
In addition to providing a core asset inventory linkable repository for Roads
and Bridges, OGRA also wishes to assist municipalities to manage their
infrastructure assets. OGRA conducted a scan of current asset management
approaches and tools, and has identified and is developing three asset
management tools. Although the tools are being designed for use by all
municipalities, regardless of size, they were chosen to meet the immediate
needs of smaller and mid-sized municipalities. The three tools are:
• Bridge Inspections;
• Capital Investment Plan; and
• Asset Valuation (for PSAB purposes)
The Municipal DataWorks database is based on an open data standard (MIDS). MIDS
includes water and sewer data standards as well, thus making the database
expandable to include these assets in future.
These four components (inventory plus three tools) combine to form the backbone
of OGRA's infrastructure asset data management system.
